1. Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw is the first player on this list. Being part of the Indian team in 5 Tests, 6 ODIs, and 1 T20I so far, Shaw is an experienced player as compared to uncapped ones. However, the 22-year-old batter is an opening batsman and faces tough competition for the spot from players like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill.

Although Shaw executed a good performance in the recent ODI series against New Zealand A, selectors have opted to go with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill in the previous few series. Hence, Prithvi Shaw might again be overlooked by selectors as an opener for IND vs SA ODI series.

2. Umran Malik

Umran Malik is another player who might face the wrath of selectors in the IND vs SA ODI series. Umran Malik is a right-arm pacer who has also played 3 T20I games so far. Malik was also part of the recent India A vs New Zealand A ODI series. However, the pacer could only grab 1 wicket in 2 games at an average of 62.0.

Other bowlers like Raj Angad Bawa (3), Rishi Dhawan (3), Kuldeep Sen (3), Kuldeep Yadav (7), Shardul Thakur (4), and Rahul Chahar (4) picked more wickets than Malik during the series. As compared to the above bowlers, Umran Malik gave a poor show. Hence, Malik might be not picked by selectors for the IND vs SA ODI series.

3. Rahul Tripathi

Rahul Tripathi is another name on this list. After his outstanding performance in IPL 2022. Tripathi was allowed to be part of the India squad in a few international series. However, Tripathi is yet to make his international debut. In the recent ODI series against New Zealand A, the right-handed batsman could only score 49 runs in 2 games, with a top knock of 31 in one match.

Tripathi also failed to slam any half-century. Some other batsmen like Sanju Samson, N Tilak Varma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Rajat Patidar gave impressive performances in the series. Hence, Tripathi might be overlooked by selectors for the upcoming IND vs SA ODI series after his poor show against New Zealand A.
