The men’s team national selector on Sunday announced the squad for the 5-match T20 series against South Africa beginning on June 9 in the national capital at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The selectors named KL Rahul as the captain while Rishabh Pant will be his deputy.

The 18-member squad includes a couple of players who are making a comeback to the side, while it also includes newcomers like Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik who have got their first call up in the squad.

Dinesh Karthik Returns To The Squad

Dinesh Karthik’s story has been amazing. After leading KKR to the 2018 IPL playoffs, he didn’t have much to show in the last 3 seasons of the IPL. But he has been in amazingly hot form for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing season.

He has scored 287 runs in 14 matches at a whopping strike rate of 191. That has forced the selectors to pick him in the squad. He is making a return to the Indian team after 3 years.

Karthik reacted to his selection to the team as he tweeted, “If you believe yourself, everything will fall into place!
Thank you for all the support and belief…the hard work continues.”

Earlier in the IPL season, Karthik in an interview with Virat Kohli had said that he wanted to make a return to the national side and wants to win the T20 WC for India.

Now that he has returned to the side for the umpteenth time he would be hoping to make it count.
