Danish Kaneria, a former Pakistani Bowler, has remarked on a wicketkeeping flaw. Kaneria believes Rishabh Pant’s weight hinders him from crouching much behind the sticks.

Before the start of the T20 match against South Africa, maverick Rishabh Pant stated that he will end up making the most of his surprising opportunity to skipper India after KL Rahul was ruled out due to injury.

Rishabh Pant has found it hard to find the back of the net in the ongoing T20I series. So far, the stand-in India skipper has only amassed 57 runs in four games.

Pant, 24, has been trapped in the deep countless times this series while trying to reach for a ball that is not within his hitting arc.

The Proteas bowlers planned Pant’s dismissal by bowling a wide line, while the Indian looks to iron out kinks in the series decider on June 19 in Bengaluru (Sunday).

‘Seems like he is overweight and bulky’: Danish Kaneria

While the focus has remained on Pant’s leadership and slowly moving patch with the willow, former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has also highlighted a batting and bowling flaw. Kaneria believes Pant’s weight prevents him from crouching much behind the sticks.

“I would like to discuss Pant’s wicketkeeping. I have realized one thing: when a fast bowler bowls, he does not squat pretty low and take a seat on his toes. He appears to be overweight, and his bulk limits his ability to rise quickly. It raises questions about his fitness. Is he completely fit?”

“However, when it tends to come to his captaincy, bowlers and batters such as Hardik and Karthik have been extremely supportive. Pant could also become the first skipper to claim victory a T20 series against South Africa” said Danish Kaneria on his YouTube channel.

On Sunday, June 19, India and South Africa will square off in the fifth and final T20I in Bengaluru.
