Kohli, who not so long ago was looking like a weak imitation of his previous dominating self, got back to how things used to be. Since his return, Kohli has amassed three fifty-run scores in his eight innings of play. He also overcame his long-century drought against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup by batting 122 not out. The maverick Kohli is bringing back memories of his former self with each subsequent innings.

A significant milestone in Virat Kohli’s ascent occurred on Sunday when his score of 63 helped India win the series. Suryakumar Yadav’s score of 69 made a significant impact, but Kohli stayed virtually till the very end to make sure India did not falter. It was the closest Kohli ever came to once again being India’s master of pursuit.

With the T20 World Cup approaching, Kohli’s timely return to form bodes well for India. Former fielding coach R Sridhar praised Kohli 2.0 and noted several positive differences in Virat, his batting, fielding, and the entire approach and headspace as someone who has witnessed Kohli at his best.

“He is in a better space now. As he admitted himself, he was probably not in the right frame of mind and now has got it in the right place. The break has done him wonders; the time spent with his family has done him wonders. And we saw what he could do right in the first game against Pakistan in the Asia Cup,” Sridhar told Cricket.com.

The Rohit Sharma-led Team India will host South Africa for a three-match T20I series as part of their ongoing practice matches for the upcoming ICC World T20.
