Shubman Gill, who was named player of the series in wins over Zimbabwe and the West Indies, is appreciating his time opening the batting alongside Shikhar Dhawan.
Dhawan-led ODI squad will be concentrating on bolstering their arguments for a spot in the ODI World Cup, which will be held in India next year, as the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia, which begins later in the month, becomes the main talking point for all cricket fans.
South Africa and India’s cricket teams will face off in a three-match ODI series. Since all of India’s top players have been sent to Australia for T20 World Cup training, Shikhar Dhawan is ready to lead the Indian team. Given that it is a part of the World Super League, this ODI Series is crucial for South Africa. The visitors are conscious that a second poor series could jeopardize their prospects of receiving a direct invitation to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
South Africa has 49 points after 13 games and is ranked 11th out of 13. India’s selection of a reserve team would make South Africa somewhat pleased. This Series will not garner much attention because everyone will be talking about the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, which is expected to be an exciting tournament.
“Shikhar Dhawan has so much experience”: Shubman Gil
Shubman Gill commented that having Shikhar Dhawan as the opening partner is exciting.
“Very exciting to play this format, I like this format. Very happy to have executed what I have been trying. It is exciting to open with Shikhar Dhawan. He has so much experience, and he guides me as well. He tells me which way to play the bowlers” Shubman Gill said.
“There is no pressure with the [ODI] World Cup, we have played in these conditions, there is no pressure, but I have to do well. The World Cup is here in India, and it will be even more fun.” Shubman Gill Added.
The 1st ODI match between India and South Africa will be played on 6th October at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
