Former South African cricketer Shaun Pollock believes KL Rahul is gradually finding his footing as a leader. He recommended that the 30-year-old is getting more confident and that he will do very well in the leadership position.
Rahul has had limited results as a skipper, having lost all three One-Day Internationals against South Africa previously this year. He furthermore lost the only Test he led the team against the Proteas at Wanderers Stadium.
Pollock stated on Cricbuzz that far too many fans and detractors think Rahul is not a natural leader. However, he stated that if the player is capable of leading from the front, situations will become easier for him.
Shaun Pollock elaborated “Many individuals in the Indian setup who are well-versed in Indian cricket have stated that KL Rahul is an unwilling skipper and not a natural leader. But I believe he is discovering his footing and starting to come into his own. When you lead from the front your results, everything else falls into place.”
Michael Vaughan praised KL Rahul as well:
Rahul has also earned accolades from former England skipper Michael Vaughan. He noted that the right-hander can perform well in all formats.
He clarified, “When KL receives into the same kind of tempo and form, there was something special about him. You can progress from that level of play to 50-over cricket and Test match cricket. He merely plays the pure way, and I always tell the young players to try to replicate players like KL Rahul since that basis allows you to succeed in all formats of the game.”
India will play South Africa in a five-match Twenty20 International series beginning on June 9, 2022.
