IND vs SA: Twitter Reacts As Rahul Tripathi Fails It To India Squad For T20I Series vs SA

The national selectors on Sunday announced the squad for the 5 match T20 series against South Africa starting June 9 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

While senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah were rested from the series. Young bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik earned their first call up to the Indian side.

Veteran WK batter, Dinesh Karthik courtesy of his brilliant performance for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2022 also returned to the squad after 3-year hiatus. Rahul Tripathi was yet again ignored.

In the absence of regular captain Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul has been given the responsibility to lead while Rishabh Pant has been appointed as his deputy.

The noticeable omission or rather the non-selection of uncapped Rahul Tripathi has generated a lot of noise as he has been in terrific form for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing IPL season.

Cricket Pundits Feel Rahul Tripathi Should Have Been In India’s Squad

Before the squad announcement, it was hugely speculated that Tripathi would make the squad especially since the senior players were being rested and Suryakumar Yadav was injured. But despite that, the selectors went in with experienced Shreyas Iyer who had a memorable series against Sri Lanka where he scored over 200 runs without being dismissed in the 3 games.

But Iyer’s form in IPL was pretty inconsistent yet he has been retained. Selectors also retained Venkatesh Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan all of whom have had a forgettable IPL.

On the other hand, Rahul Tripathi has scored 393 runs in 13 games with a massive strike rate of 161.73. It also includes 3 fifties. Last season too Tripathi had scored 397 runs at a strike rate of over 140. He has been the real intent merchant for his side in the IPL. He is also very flexible with his batting position. Despite having yet another terrific season, he has been ignored by the selectors. Social media didn’t take it positively as a lot of people questioned his non-selection.
