India clinched the three-match T20I series against world champions Australia by 2-1. Before heading to Australia for the T20 World Cup next month, India will play against South Africa in a three-match T20I series starting September 28 in Thiruvananthapuram followed by two more T20Is on October 2 and October 4 and this will be their last T20 series before the World Cup.

India and South Africa previously faced off in a five-match T20I series in June, ending in a 2-2 draw as the fifth T20I in Bangalore were washed out due to rain.

We Are Expecting It To Be a Good and Competitive Series – Temba Bavuma

South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma said in a press conference ahead of the first T20I that he expects a good and competitive three-match T20I series against India.

“We are expecting it to be a good series, a competitive one, as it always is when we play India. The last time we were here, we were tested and challenged in all departments of our game and I think we replied to it quite well. So I expect a good, strong and competitive series,” said Bavuma in a pre-match press conference.

The captain stated that the management will look to fill gaps in the team during the series. This would provide the squad with enough balance ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022, which will be held in Australia in October and November.

“We have guys who have been playing a lot of cricket and I guess we will be managing their intensity. We also have guys who need some cricket under their belts. It will be to give those guys some game time because this is our last preparation in different conditions compared to Australia but still match time nevertheless,” he added.

“We expect them to obviously come on and lead from the front, which is good practice for the team. It will be good for us to come up against their best. We expect those guys to bring a lot of confidence and X-factor into their team,” he said.
