By dismissing Quinton de Kock, India’s Mohammed Siraj gave the Men in Blue their first wicket in the second ODI against South Africa which is being played in Ranchi on October 9, 2022. South Africa won the toss and chose to field first.
There were quite a few changes in both the teams as South Africa was without the services of captain Temba Bavuma and left-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi, both out with illness and Keshav Maharaj captained the Proteas instead. They brought in Reeza Hendricks and Bjorn Fortuin to replace them, while Anrich Nortje came in for Lungi Ngidi.
On the other hand, India made two changes as well with Ravi Bishnoi, who made his ODI debut in the last match and Ruturaj Gaikwad was missing from the XI in this match, and Washington Sundar came in while Shahbaz Ahmed made his ODI debut for India.
India looked to win this second ODI and come back in the series as South Africa won the first ODI by 9 runs and lead the three-match series 1-0 and the points also count towards the ICC ODI league and the 2023 World Cup qualification for the Proteas.
Quinton De Kock Plays On To His Own Stumps On A Mohammed Siraj Delivery
Quinton de Kock and Janneman Malan opened the innings for South Africa and De Kock hit the first ball of the match by Mohammed Siraj for a boundary. De Kock looked in great touch and given that he was coming off two half-centuries in the last two international games, he was a huge threat to the Indian team.
After a quiet second over from Washington Sundar, in which the all-rounder gave just 2 runs, De Kock looked a bit itchy when Mohammed Siraj came to bowl his second over. However, it proved to be an anti-climax as Siraj managed to get the wicket of the keeper-batter.
De Kock has a visible problem with the balls wide outside off-stump due to the way he grips his bat and how his willow comes down at an angle at the ball. Siraj bowled one wide outside off, which De Kock should’ve left, but he tried to hit it squarely and only managed to hit the ball onto his own stumps.
