Australia and Sri Lanka are set to take on each other in the second of the five-match T20 series on Sunday. Sydney Cricket Ground will host the much-anticipated encounter. Australia batted first in the last game and managed to score 149 runs in the first innings.

In-form Ben McDermott starred with the bat as he scored a match-winning 53 off 41 deliveries. Marcus Stoinis also played a valuable 30-run cameo in just 17 deliveries. However, there wasn’t much of a contribution from the other batsmen.

It was a combined bowling effort from the Sri Lankan bowlers which led to Australia getting restricted to a sub-par total. B Fernando (2 for 12 in 4 overs) and C Karunaratne (2 for 22 in 4 overs) were outstanding during their respective four-over spells. The likes of Wanindu Hasaranga and Chameera also picked two wickets each but were a little expensive.

In reply, Sri Lanka were restricted to just 122 runs, thereby falling 20 runs short of the target (D/L Method). All the batsmen struggled to get going. Nissanka (36 off 37), Charith Asalanka (16 off 19) and Wanindu Hasaranga (13 off 11) looked scratchy during their innings as they found it hard to play with ease. Dinesh Chandimal sparked a little hope with an unbeaten 16-ball 25, but he found little support from other batsmen.

For Australia, Josh Hazlewood (4 for 12 in 4 overs) and Adam Zampa (3 for 18 in 4 overs) ran through Sri Lanka’s batting unit. The duo combined to pick 7 wickets between them, helping the team register an easy win in the first T20 international.
