A few days ago, the Board of Cricket for Control in India announced the revised schedule of Sri Lanka’s tour of India. As per the new schedule, the tour with begin with three T20 internationals, followed by two Tests.

The two teams will take on each other in a two-match Test series in March. The first Test will be played from 4^th March to 8^th March 2022 in Mohali, while the second and final Test match is slated to be played from 12^th March to 16^th March 2022.

The two teams have so far played 44 Test matches against each other in the history of the longest format of the game. India have beaten Sri Lanka in 20 Tests, while Sri Lanka have emerged victorious only 7 times. It is worth mentioning that Sri Lanka have never won a Test series in India and will have to play their skins out to win it this time around.

MS Dhoni’s record as a captain in limited over’s cricket is unparalleled. He is the most successful captain India have ever produced in white-ball cricket. However, the same cannot be said in the longest format of the game. He wasn’t as successful in Tests as he was in the other two formats.

The former skipper managed to register 27 wins in 60 Tests as captain. 3 of those wins came against Sri Lanka. MS Dhoni-led India in 6 Tests against Sri Lanka and won 3 out of them with a win percentage of 50. He, thus, finds himself in the third position on the list.

Mohammad Azharuddin: 5 wins in 8 Tests

M Azharuddin is counted amongst the greatest captains in the history of Indian Cricket. In his international cricket career, he played 99 Tests and led India in 47 Tests. The former Indian captain managed to register the second most number of Test wins against Sri Lanka in Tests.

He led India in 8 Tests against Sri Lanka and won 5 out of them. He had a win percentage of 62.5 against Sri Lanka in Tests. As far as his batting was concerned, Azharuddin scored 6215 runs in 99 Tests at an average of 45.03.

Virat Kohli: 6 wins in 9 Tests

India’s most successful captain in the history of Test Cricket, Virat Kohli sits at number one position in the list. He took the cricketing world by surprise after stepping down as Test captain, following the Test series loss in South Africa. Virat Kohli has an outstanding record as captain in Test Cricket. In 68 Tests as captain, he managed to help India win in 40 games with a win percentage of 58.82.

Besides, he has the most wins as an Indian captain against Sri Lanka in Test Cricket. Virat Kohli led India in 9 Tests against Sri Lanka and managed to win 6 out of them. He boasts of a win percentage of 66.66 against Sri Lanka in Tests.

For the unversed, Virat Kohli is no longer the captain of the Indian Cricket Team in any of the formats but remains a vital part of the team.
