After playing against West Indies, Team India will take on Sri Lanka for three T20 internationals and two Tests. The series will begin with T20Is, followed by Test matches. As per reports, the first two T20 internationals will be played in Dharamsala, while the final match will be played in Mohali.

India and Sri Lanka last played a T20 series in July 2021. Sri Lanka won that series 2-1. It is worth mentioning that it was a second-string Indian side that played that series. India’s senior team will be playing the upcoming series and, that too, at home. It will be interesting to see who emerges victorious in the end.

India would look to give more opportunities and game time to youngsters. Having said that, the upcoming series could also be the last chance for some players to perform and impress the selectors. Here’s a look at three of them.

1. Bhuvneshwar Kumar

The 32-year old Indian seamer is short on confidence at the moment. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, no doubt, has lost the zip he had earlier. He doesn’t swing the ball that much and has lost a bit of pace as well. India have got a great replacement for him in Deepak Chahar.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar endured forgettable numbers in his last few outings with the ball. Despite that, the management has kept faith in his abilities and has included him in the T20 series against West Indies. He might also be included in the T20 series against Sri Lanka but that could be his last chance to impress.

2. Ravichandran Ashwin:

Ravichandran Ashwin made his comeback in white-ball cricket after being selected in India’s squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. It hasn’t been a great comeback for Ravichandran Ashwin. He hasn’t taken the world by storm as yet.

Ashwin has been economical but struggled to pick a lot of wickets. Due to injury, he hasn’t been selected for the T20 series against West Indies but might back come back into the side against Sri Lanka. With so many spinners in the fray, Ravichandran Ashwin needs to perform really well against Sri Lanka or he might not play in T20 internationals for India ever again.

3. Deepak Hooda

Deepak Hooda has been drafted in India’s squad for the T20 series against West Indies. It will be interesting to see if he gets a chance to be featured in the playing XI. With India looking to find a perfect combination in the middle-order, Hooda is likely to get a game or two to showcase his batting prowess.

However, it’s also true that he isn’t going to get a lot of opportunities. Ahead of the T20 series against Sri Lanka, he needs to make the most of the opportunities or, else, he might not able to prolong his T20 career.
