Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer said that senior Indian batter Virat Kohli lacked confidence in his batting as the player is enduring a lean patch with his batting form.
It is not a hidden fact that Kohli hasn’t scored an international hundred for a long period, where the Indian cricket team has undergone too many changes, but the former Indian skipper is still waiting to score his hundred since he made one against Bangladesh in a Day-Night Test match in November 2019.
Virat Kohli scored 23 runs in the first innings of the second Test

Kohli made just 45 runs in his 100th Test and followed it up with 23 off 48 balls on the first day of the pink-ball Test on Saturday. Kohli failed to read Dhananjaya de Silva’s off-breaker, that spun and the batter was undone by the extra bounce as he was trapped before the wickets.
Virat Kohli doesn’t have enough runs under his belt and there is a lack of confidence: Wasim Jaffer
Kohli was left disappointed starred at the pitch in dismay before he went back to the pavilion. Jaffer said that Kohli does not have technical issues in his batting but lacked confidence.

“There is nothing like that (on flaws in Kohli’s batting technique). He doesn’t have enough runs under his belt and there is a lack of confidence. The kind of runs that we expect from Kohli is not seen. Once he gets to that hundred and he finds form, I am quite sure that we will get to see the old Virat Kohli.” Jaffer told ESPNcricinfo.
Kohli has scored 359 runs in his last 10Test innings at an average of 35.9 with just two half-centuries since the fourth Test against England at the Kia Oval last year.
India posted 252 after Shreyas Iyer made 92 in the first innings, Sri Lanka’s batting woes carried on after the visitors’ innings folded up on 109. India are leading the two-match Test series 1-0 lead after their victory in the first Test by an innings and 222 runs.
