IND v SL: "Shanaka Made Me Forget I'm Supporting India" Twitter Hails SL Skipper Dasun Shanaka For His Finishing In 2nd T20I vs India
Published - 26 Feb 2022, 10:02 PM | Updated - 23 Aug 2024, 09:56 PM

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka was the toast of the visitor’s innings in the ongoing second T20I against India at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Stadium (HPCA) in Dharamsala on February 26, 2022. Shanaka slammed 47* in 19 balls to help Sri Lanka post 183/5 in 20 overs.
Earlier, team India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first on a cold Dharamsala night. India, who lead the series 1-0 after a thumping win in the first match in Lucknow’s Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium, in Ekana, went into the second T20I, unbeaten.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, made two changes, bringing in Binura Fernando and Danushka Gunathilaka. Gunathilaka helped Sri Lanka get off to a decent start, as Sri Lanka made 67 in 8.4 overs for the first wicket when he fell for 38 runs to Ravindra Jadeja.

Then Sri Lanka lost three quick wickets, as Charith Asalanka (2), Kamil Mishara (1), and Dinesh Chandimal (9) fell in quick succession to Yuzvendra Chahal, Harshal Patel, and Jasprit Bumrah respectively.
Dasun Shanaka And Pathum Nissanka Trouble Indian Bowlers In Death And Take Sri Lanka To An Good Total

Pathum Nissanka, who opened the innings, carried on throughout the innings, falling in the 19th over for 75 in 53 balls with 11 fours, adding 58 runs for the 5th wicket with captain Dasun Shanaka. However, it was Dasun Shanaka, who caused carnage in the last 5 overs or so, as Sri Lanka scored 80 runs.
Shanaka was the main contributor to the last few overs as he smashed 47* in 19 balls with 2 fours and 5 sixes. He smashed Harshal Patel to all parts of the ground as the Indian pacer conceded 23 runs in the last over of Sri Lankan innings. He was hit for one four and two sixes by Shanaka, while one four went via leg byes.

The Twitterverse was all praises for Shanaka as his captain’s knock helped Sri Lanka post 183/5 in 20 overs and give Indian batters a tough task to chase down those runs.
Here are some of the tweets:

No question that SL has been better under Shanaka than any other T20 captain over the past few years.
But after a lean personal trot early in his leadership, he’s finally getting some big innings for himself.

Lovely to see Shanaka bat like this. We have been asking for him to back himself. India have been a bit off and have a good score to chase, leaked quite a few in the last five overs. Should be a good chase!

Sensational half century by skipper Shanaka. Sri Lanka hammer more than 80 runs in the last five overs or so. India’s bowlers haven’t been roughed up so badly at home in many years. Good test for batsmen to chase chase down 183
