The BCCI selection committee still headed by Chetan Sharma announce India’s squads for the ODI and T20I series at home against Sri Lanka. The series will comprise three T20Is and as many ODIs between January 3-15. As per sources, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been dropped from the T20I side while Hardik Pandya has been named as the captain of the side.

This could be the way forward for team India for the Road to 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. The three T20Is will be played on January 3, 5, and 7 followed by the three ODIs on 10, 12, and 15.

Apart from Rohit Sharma, the likes of Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav have also been dropped from the T20I squad. Both of them recently played in the Test series against Bangladesh and had impactful performances. India won the Test series 2-0.

Meanwhile, as far as this Indian T20I squad for the Sri Lanka series is concerned, the big three are all missing. While KL Rahul has endured a tough time across formats recently, sources close to Cricketaddictor have confirmed that the board is no longer interested in keeping the likes of Rohit and KL Rahul in their plans for India’s T20I setup. Rahul’s last five scores in T20Is are three single-digit scores and two fifties. His fifties came against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

While Rohit has not yet recovered from the thumb injury that he picked up in the Bangladesh ODI series, Kohli had asked for a break from the Sri Lanka T20I series as per Cricket Addictor’s sources. The two Indian senior batters have struggled across formats as well with Rohit’s injury adding up to make matters worse.

India and Sri Lanka recently played each other in the Asia Cup with the Lankans eventually winning the title. The Islanders beat India in the Super 4 game they played in Dubai on September 6. India thus will be eyeing revenge across formats in this upcoming series. Team India will be hungry to win the series after losing the ODI series as well to Bangladesh.
