England Are 100 Miles Away From Winning In Australia - Michael Vaughan

Ashes 2021-22: England Are At That Stage Now Where They Have To Change Something – Michael Vaughan

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has been disappointed with the way England have performed in the first two Tests of the ongoing Ashes series against Australia. Joe Root and his men have been absolutely thrashed in both Tests and are already in a do-or-die situation going into the Boxing Day Test 0-2 down.

Michael Vaughan feels England are far away from winning a Test in Australia as they do not have the right team composition to compete on such pitches. Speaking to Fox Sports, this is what the former England skipper had to say:

“This is the worry for England, and I said it last time they were here. I said the problem I found with this England Test match team is that they don’t realise that they are 100 miles away from winning in Australia.”

On the other hand, Vaughan believes Australia are well equipped to beat England in their own backyard. Australia had almost beaten England in the 2019 Ashes, but only a heroic knock from Ben Stokes saved the grace for England. In this regard, Vaughan added:

“But the Aussies are very close to beating us in the UK. They nearly beat us in 2019 and should have done. The next time they will do because (Stuart) Broad and (James) Anderson will be out the way, and they’ve probably got to take a couple of steps back to go forward from this position.”

Jhype Richardson is going to have huge success in England: Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan heaped praise on Australian pacer Jhye Richardson for his performance in the second Test against England at Adelaide. Swinging the ball both ways, Richardson picked up his maiden fifer in Tests and helped Australia register a tight win in the last session. With conditions in England suitable for swing bowling, Vaughan feels Richardson will be more than a handful.

“I’ve always really liked Jhye Richardson. I think he’s going to be an absolute star. And I think he’s going to be the type of bowler that’s going to have a huge amount of success in England. If you put a Duke’s ball in Jhye Richardson’s hands, I think he’s going to have a huge amount of success,” Vaughan concluded.
