England Test captain Joe Root said he is happy on star all-rounder Ben Stokes making his comeback in the team for the upcoming Ashes.

In July, Stokes had took an immediate break from playing cricket to concentrate on his mental health and spent some quality time around his family.

Stokes also underwent an operation for one of his finger that he had injured during IPL 2021 in April.

Root said that it’s good for him to see Stokes participate in the Ashes.

Really nice to see him back involved and looking forward to getting him further involved as things progress,” Root said in a press conference.

“It’s good to see him back and around things. It’s a huge series and one that everyone wants to be a part of to come here and have the opportunity to do something very special,” he added.

Ben Stokes has been fully involved in training

Ben Stokes’ return to England’s squad for the Ashes Test series in Australia has boosted the morale of the team and also strengthened their chances to compete against their nemesis.

Stokes’ magnificent 135* against Australia in Leeds during the 2019 Ashes at home will be a harrowing memory for the Aussies.

Root said that Stokes has started to train, and the team management will take care that the all-rounder takes everything smoothly.

Ben’s been fully involved in training the last couple of days, I mean it’s been very light,” Root asserted.

He’s had a bat, he’s had a bowl, taken some catches . He’s done his fielding work separately but it looks like he’s on track and it’s really exciting.”

“It’s managing that excitement and making sure that we don’t push him too hard and that he’s ready, as best as he can be, for that first game. I really hope he’s ready. It’s been remarkable to see how far he’s come. It looks very promising,” he added.

The Ashes will commence on December 8, with the first Test between Australia and England will be played at the Gabba in Brisbane.
