Australian batter Usman Khawaja smashed a marvellous hundred on his return to international cricket after a gap of more than two years. The left-handed batter also celebrated his century in the trademark celebration style of American basketball star LeBron James.

On Day 2 of the SCG Test, Australia resumed their innings after the first day was partially washed out due to rain showers.

Khawaja along with Steve Smith scored runs swiftly as the duo forged a 115-run partnership before the latter nicked to Jos Buttler off Stuart Broad’s bowling. Smith departed on 67 but Khawaja continued flowing runs from his bat as he smashed more than 10 fours in his comeback innings.

Khawaja, who last played a Test for Australia in the 2019 Ashes, brought up his ninth Test hundred with a flick to Jack Leach towards deep backward square leg and picked three runs. The Queensland batter jumped and later brought LeBron’s famous ‘Silencer Celebration to make the moment special for the electrifying Sydney crowd.

The 35-year-old has spoken previously about how the NBA legend has served as inspiration late in his career, even naming his pet King Charles Cavalier after James.

LeBron often reserves the celebration for the biggest moments and after being ignored by the Australian selectors for a long period of time, the Queensland skipper rose to the occasion to show that he has more left in him.

Khawaja’s tremendous innings was brought to halt by Broad as the England pacer bowled a good length delivery that got a thick inside edge of Khawaja that clattered his stumps. Khawaja made 137 from 260 balls at the strike rate of 52.69 and put 67 runs with Mitchell Starc for the eighth wicket.
