Delhi Capitals finished at the top of the table when the IPL 2021 was suspended and they have all the bases covered for the upcoming seasons with a young team in hand. However, if the mega auction takes place, they will be able to retain only two Indian players and one overseas player.

They have plenty of Indian talent and it is going to be tough for them to choose the players for the RTM card. Shikhar Dhawan’s ageing factor might be one to consider despite his excellent form with the bat and the skipper Shreyas Iyer is set to be back after his injury for the next edition. Here are 3 players Delhi Capitals might retain for IPL 2022.

3 Players Delhi Capitals (DC) Might Retain For IPL 2022:

Shreyas Iyer:

Shreyas Iyer will be the first name when it comes to retention and Delhi Capitals’ decision to make him the captain has certainly worked so far as they played their first IPL finals in the IPL 2020. Iyer is also an important member of the Indian batting lineup in limited-overs games and he has been vital to the franchise’s success over the years.

Iyer’s captaincy has taken the franchise to the playoffs for the last two years and his own game has improved vastly. He is a match-winner with the bat and is one of the best players of spin in the country. He has formed a great connection with Ricky Ponting as the coach and is expected to do wonders for the team in the future.

Rishabh Pant:

Rishabh Pant was the replacement captain for Shreyas Iyer who missed out due to a shoulder injury this IPL. He did a terrific job to win six out of eight games in his first campaign and played well with the bat too. He has been in very good form in the last six months and is an important member of India in all the formats.

Pant was one of the three players to be retained ahead of the previous mega auction in 2018 and he is a match-winner on any day. He has improved his wicket-keeping skills and is very effective behind the stumps. Pant and Iyer will be in the long time plans for the Delhi Capitals franchise and will look to retain whatever it takes.

Kagiso Rabada:

Kagiso Rabada was the purple cap winner in the previous IPL edition and he has the most wickets in the last two IPL seasons. Rabada has improved to be a great T20 bowler as of now and he has been a great addition to the franchises. Delhi did not retain him in the last mega auction and picked him up with the RTM card but this time it might be a different case.

Rabada can execute the lethal yorkers and cranks up a really good pace to make it tough for the batsman. He will be a certainty in playing XI and will be the first choice overseas player in the playing XI. His wicket-taking abilities helped Delhi Capitals get to the finals last year and he can serve the franchise on a long-term basis as Malinga did for Mumbai Indians.
