Rajasthan Royals (RR) will have to make key decisions while retaining players ahead of the mega auction as they haven’t won an IPL after the inaugural edition for a long time now. They had a decent IPL 2021 after losing nearly four overseas players and they would have been happy that the tournament was suspended in the midway.

Royals have retained only one player ahead of the mega auction previously in 2018 with Steve Smith but this time they will have many options and it is going to be tough for them when it comes to two overseas players. Their Indian contingent is far more inexperienced and here are 3 players Rajasthan Royals might retain for IPL 2022.

3 Players Rajasthan Royals (RR) Might Retain For IPL 2022:

Sanju Samson:

Sanju Samson was named as the skipper of the franchise after letting go of Steve Smith and he has been a key player for the franchise over the years. He is one of the best strikers of the cricket ball and it is difficult to stop him when he gets going. He started the IPL 2021 with a brilliant century but wasn’t consistent after that which has been a feature for him over the years.

However, Samson can be a match-winner on his day and he needs to adjust the number of risky shots he plays. Franchises have been interested in him in the past and Rajasthan Royals will be keen to retain him to be on the safer side. He is still young and has a long way to go in the IPL with his captaincy and batting.

Chetan Sakariya:

Probably, the best talent on show in this IPL was Chetan Sakariya who has come up from a long way to take part in the tournament. He did really well in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and being a left-arm seamer was an advantage for him. He was well backed up by the management and he picked up 7 wickets in the 7 games he played this year.

Sakariya bowled well in the powerplay at a very good economy rate — and executed his variations really well at the back end of the innings. He looks like someone who can be groomed for the big stages in the future and the Rajasthan Royals will be looking to give him an extended run. He could be the second Indian to be retained by the franchise.

Ben Stokes:

Ben Stokes is one of the best all-rounders going around in the world and can be a match-winner with the bat and the ball. Royals were unfortunate to have missed his services this year after suffering from an injury and he had to flow back home after two games. However, he is still a big asset in the franchise.

Stokes was bought for a hefty price in the auction and he hasn’t delivered up to the expectations with the odd match-winning innings at times. He has been sent up the order to get the maximum impact out of him and it paid off at the end of the last season where he scored a scintillating century and won the game for Royals. Rajasthan Royals would prefer the all-rounder as their only overseas player to be retained.
