The New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson is 4th in the list of batsmen with most runs as captain in Tests since 2014. The right-hander is one of the best players in the modern-day generation with a high-class technique and he is also the number one batsmen in the ICC test rankings at the moment.

Williamson averages nearly 54 in tests which is excellent in the longer format and he has scored 3193 runs in 59 Test innings since 2014. Williamson recently took New Zealand to the maiden ICC World Test Championship finals and won the inaugural title as well with some handy runs in the second innings.

Steve Smith is one of the best in the business in the longer format especially and he averages more than 61 which is tremendous. Smith has an unorthodox technique that has served him really well and he has taken over the captaincy from Michael Clarke after the 2015 World Cup.

The right-hander has scored 3659 runs in 60 Test innings since 2014 and he was always among the runs during his captaincy stint. He was suspended for one year from international cricket after the ball-tampering scandal in 2018 and it is extraordinary that he is still on the list at third despite not being the captain for the last three years.

The English skipper Joe Root has been a stalwart for his country in the longer format and he has batted at the highest quality since taking over the captaincy from legendary Alastair Cook. Root has already broken a lot of English records including the most number of international centuries from his country.

The right-hander has scored 4506 runs in 99 innings since 2014 and is second on the list of batsmen with the most runs as a captain since 2014. Root has already scored 23 Test centuries and is just 30 years of age at the moment with a lot of years to go.

Virat Kohli is by far the most consistent batsman in the last decade and the right-hander is popularly called King Kohli for his dominance against any team in the world. Kohli is among the few batsmen to average above 50 in all the formats and is likely to end up as the all-time greatest batsman.

Kohli took over the Test captaincy from MS Dhoni during the 2015 Test series in Australia and has been phenomenal for the Indian side with 5511 runs in 103 Test innings as the captain. Kohli’s captaincy has taken India to greater heights as well and is very successful in the longer format especially in terms of the numbers.
