Deepak Hooda made an impressive first outing for Team India in ODI cricket, remaining unbeaten and helping the Men in Blue to a 6-wicket win over West Indies in the first ODI of the three-match series being played in Ahmedabad. He also said that it was his dream coming true as he received his India cap from former captain Virat Kohli.

India registered a dominating win over West Indies in the first match after restricting the opposition to 176 runs as they were put in to bat first. Rohit Sharma led India in the full-time captaincy role and won the toss, choosing to bowl first in what was India’s 1000th ODI match, making them the first team to reach this milestone.

Jason Holder was the only batter from the Caribbean to counter the Indian bowlers, making 57 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal picked 4/49, while Washington Sundar picked three wickets and Prasidh Krishna took two scalps.

Rohit Sharma then led the chase with a knock of 60 and added 84 runs for the first wicket with Ishan Kishan making 28 runs. India suffered a small collapse with Virat Kohli falling for 8 and Rishabh Pant for 11 runs after Rohit and Kishan got out.

But then Suryakumar Yadav made 34* and Deepak Hooda scored 26* off 32 balls in his first ODI as India defeated West Indies by six wickets on Sunday.

India batter Suryakumar Yadav also lavished praise on debutant Hooda for his confident knock.

“I think things were really clear. I didn’t tell him (Hooda) anything. He has played domestic cricket for last seven years. It was important for him to stay till the end, and his confidence was spot on. I really liked it,” said Suryakumar after the game.

The next ODI between the two sides will be played on February 9, Wednesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad.
