IND v WI 2022: West Indies Series Crucial For Yuzvendra Chahal And Kuldeep Yadav- Saba Karim

Former India wicketkeeper batter Saba Karim feels the upcoming series against West Indies could be decisive for the careers of India spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. Both of the spinners are sort of making their comebacks into the white-ball schemes.
After ruling the roost from 2017-2020, when Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav used to help India win matches by picking wickets in tandem in the middle overs, their decline began during the ICC World Cup 2019, when they both were hit for runs and didn’t have the impact they used to have.
This led to the Indian team going back to Ravindra Jadeja, Akshar Patel and trying out new talents like Rahul Chahar and Jayant Yadav. While Chahal pushed his way back into the team, form and injuries kept Kuldeep Yadav out of the Indian team in all three formats.
Yuzvendra Chahal And Kuldeep Yadav Should Bowl Aggressively In Middle Overs, Else Opposition Will Score Easily: Saba Karim
Former India keeper and chief selector Saba Karim believes if Chahal and Yadav can deliver breakthroughs in the middle overs with aggressive bowling, it would benefit India a lot.
“The main reason for bringing back the wrist spinners is the lack of wickets in the middle overs. It is a very important series for Chahal and Kuldeep. Chahal is still bowling defensively. If you bowl defensively in the middle overs, the batters will easily score runs off you. Rohit and Rahul would be hoping that these two deliver attacking bowling. This series will show whether India should persist with Chahal and Kuldeep or not,” Karim said on the Khelneeti podcast on YouTube.
He also added: “Chahal and Kuldeep should play together. They are wicket-taking bowlers. So that, they can form their partnership again and bring back the efficacy that could benefit India. Washington Sundar is an option as well, but he is not a wicket-taking bowler.”
India’s spin attack of Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal lacked potency in their recent tour of South Africa. Now Chahal and Yadav will have the responsibility to bring back their old form, as they will face pressure from young Ravi Bishnoi and all-rounder Washington Sundar as well.
