Ahead of IND vs WI ODI series, the Indian camp has witnessed a setback after 4 players from the squad have tested positive for COVID-19. Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, and Navdeep Saini have contacted COVID-19 and have been isolated. The IND vs WI ODI series is slated to commence on February 6 with the 1st ODI.

Since these 4 Indian players have tested positive for COVID-19, they will not be able to play the 1st ODI. Shikhar Dhawan is an important player for India who bats as an opener. Agarwal plays as an opener in Tests for India. Although he is a Test specialist, he has a decent record in IPL while batting as an opener. Hence, he can definitely bat as an opener and replace Shikhar Dhawan in the playing XI in the opening ODI.

2. Washington Sundar

India can also pick Washington Sundar to replace Shikhar Dhawan in IND vs WI 1st ODI. Sundar is a bowling all-rounder. He has only played 1 ODI so far. If Sundar is picked in the playing XI, he can replace Dhawan as an opener too. He has experience of batting as an opener in IPL. Else, KL Rahul can open the innings with Rohit Sharma and Washinton Sundar can be kept in the lower-order.

1. Deepak Hooda

Deepak Hooda is the third player who can replace Shikhar Dhawan in IND vs WI 1st ODI. Deepak Hooda has got a maiden call-up to the Indian team. He is a batting all-rounder. Hooda can be given a chance against Dhawan. However, Hooda does not bat as an opener. Hence, someone else like KL Rahul or Virat Kohli can open the innings with Rohit Sharma and Deepak Hooda might bat in the middle-order.
