Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim has said that the new template of the Indian team in T20I cricket will be to make the most of the powerplay overs.
India National Cricket Team won the first match of the three-match T20I series against West Indies National Cricket Team at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata and by 6 wickets. Captain Rohit Sharma, while opening the innings, played an aggressive 40-run knock at the strike rate of 210.53.
Speaking on the YouTube channel Khelneeti, Saba Karim, said that the skipper Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli both tried to play aggressive innings in the first T20I. He added that Rohit Sharma opened the innings with Ishan Kishan because the Indian team wanted to make the most of the powerplay overs. He said:
“India’s new template for T20Is will be to maximize the powerplay. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli tried to do the same in the 1st T20I. They opened with Ishan Kishan because of the same. Sharma’s strike rate in powerplays has been low, but he ensured that he maintained a healthy strike rate during those overs this time.”
