IND vs WI: Rishabh Pant Is Not A Player Who Can Play In The Middle-Order – Ashish Nehra

Former Indian left-arm pacer Ashish Nehra has opined that the young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is not suited for a middle-order position.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant batted at no. 4 in the first T20I against West Indies and he scored just 8 runs. He came to at no.5 in the second T20I and delivered a sensational performance.

The wicket-keeper, who came out to bat in the 14th over, scored 52 runs off 28 balls. He added 76 runs with all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer and helped India score 186 runs in the first innings of the match.

Rishabh Pant’s ‘Player of the Match’ performance helped India win the second T20I by 8 runs to get an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.

Former Indian speedster said that he was delighted to see Suryakumar Yadav getting promoted to no.4. He added that the lesser over Pant gets the better it will be for him as the lower-order position is the better suited for him.

“Today, they went with the match-up. Suryakumar Yadav is good against spin, so it was good to see that he was sent at no.4. He got out but it happens,” Nehra said on Cricbuzz.

“We have all seen how Rishabh Pant played, the type of strokes he plays. The lesser overs he gets, the better it is. I don’t want to discuss much about his ability to hit, because we are already doing it for 3-4 years now.

“But it might take him more time to polish the ability to build the innings. So, a position in lower order is better for him. Alternatively, you send him at top. For now, he is not a player who can play in the middle-order,” Nehra further said.

Reportedly, Rishabh Pant along with Virat Kohli will not be part of the third T20I against West Indies and the entire Sri Lanka T20Is as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has provided the players with a bio-bubble break.
