Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL)

The Women's Big Bash League or the WBBL is the premier Australian women's domestic T20 league. The tournament replaced the Australian Women's T20 Cup that ran from 2007-08 to 2014-15 season. The tournament is organized by Cricket Australia every year.

Before WBBL, Cricket Australia used to conduct the Australian Women's Twenty20 Cup. The final of the competition was played as a double-header alongside the Twenty20 Big Bash and later the Big Bash League. The tournament featuring the Australian players ran from the 2009–10 season to 2014–15.

After the 2014-15 season, Cricket Australia decided to launch the Women's Big Bash League to boost women's cricket. The decision was taken to make women's cricket more popular at the grassroots level and encourage more girls and women to play cricket.

In February 2015, Cricket Australia finally announced the launch of WBBL, stating that the tournament would be played from the 2015-16 season. Each of the women's teams aligned to the current men's competition. The tournament was officially launched on 10 July 2015.
