Smriti Mandhana Hopes To Be A Part Of Olympics After India Secures Gold In Asian Games
The Indian Women’s Cricket Team beat Sri Lanka to clinch the gold medal in the Asian Games 2023 which is being held in China. Talking about the win Indian opener Smriti Mandhana talked about how as a cricketer they get very few opportunities to contribute to the medal tally of India. The Indian Women’s Cricket team got the silver medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games losing to Australia in the finals. The Asian Games Gold is the second medal for the Women’s team.
Smriti Mandhana talked about the feeling of being a medal-winner, she said that the feeling when they were at the podium and the Indian national anthem was played, was a pretty special moment for her and the whole team. Talking about the match Smriti Mandhana took a dig at the pitch saying that even 116 was pretty high-scoring on that pitch. India Women beat Sri Lanka Women by 19 runs to clinch the gold medal.
Talking about Cricket in the Olympics, Smriti Mandhana said that it would be great to represent India at the Olympics. Cricket is being considered for the 2028 Olympics which will be held in Los Angeles. The event is already a part of the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. The Olympics will be a revolutionary step for the game of bat and ball.
Smriti Mandhana Feels The Olympics Will Be As Important As A World Cup
“As Cricketers, we have watched a lot of Olympic sports, all the athletes winning medals for us and, especially I think we could experience that a little today when the national anthem was played, you know that’s a very special moment because we being athletes but we still don’t get to experience that a lot more and compete for that. If that happens it would be amazing for us and I think the Olympics will be something which we would be looking forward to as much as we look forward to a World Cup.“, said Smriti Mandhana.
Smriti Mandhana scored 46 runs in the finals and put up a 73-run stand with Jemimah Rodrigues for the second wicket. India batted their way through to reach 116 in their 20 overs and then were able to stop Sri Lanka on just 97 to win the gold medal.
