Team India skipper Virat Kohli has been on a record-breaking spree in the recent past. He has been piling on runs in all 3 formats of the game. He has arguably been the most consistent batsman across formats in the recent times. He is having a sensational tour of South Africa so far. Kohli struck a century in the Test series and followed it up with 3 more in the ODI’s. The 558 runs he scored in the ODI series is the most by any batsman in a bilateral ODI series.

He has been a nightmare for South African bowlers in the tour so far. He scored a fluent 27 in the opening T20I but failed to convert it into a big one. He is the only batsman in the world to average more than 50 in all 3 formats of the game. Given the form, he is on the tour he might well go o to enter the elite league of Sir Vivian Richards. The former Windies great is the only cricketer to have scored 1,000 runs on a single tour.

Richards is the only batsman to score 1000 runs in a single tour

Richards had achieved the feat against England way back in 1976. He had scored 829 runs in the Test series while finished with 216 runs in the 3 match ODI series which eventually took the cumulative total to 1,045 runs.  Only Sir Don Bradman comes close when the cricketer scored 974 runs in a 5 match Test series against England back in 1930.

Kohli has the opportunity to go past the likes of Bradman and Richards. Currently, Kohli has scored 870 runs on this tour. He needs just 105 more runs to surpass Don Bradman while he needs 175 runs more in the next two T20I’s to break the record for most runs on a tour by Sir Viv Richards.

Breaking up Kohli’s runs in the tour so far, he scored 286 runs in the Test series, followed it up with 558 runs in the 6 match ODI series In the opening T20I he was dismissed for 27.
