Bangladesh Test captain, Mushfiqur Rahim, maintains that the shortest format of the game is not only about power hitting. Rahim reckons it is also about the techniques and ability to read the bowler early.

The quintessential wicketkeeper-batsman for Bangladesh made the statement ahead of the all-important game against India on Thursday.

Bangladesh plays their first game in the Nidahas Trophy on March 8 while the Indians feature in their second. The men in blue lost the tournament opener against host Sri Lanka at the iconic R. Premadasa Stadium at Colombo.

Everyone thinks that T20 cricket is for the well-built batsman who has the power to clear the ropes. It’s all about technique, whichever format you play, and it’s important to read the bowler early and adjust your foot movement,” stated Mushfiqur Rahim according to BD crictime.

Rahim opined that having the power to dispatch balls over the ropes is does not guarantee maximums. According to Rahim, one must also have the ability to adapt to the variations from the bowler.

Yes, if you have enough power it can only be your extra strength but one just can’t go and hit every ball only because you have the muscle,” Rahim says.

We haven’t played T20s on a regular basis and the more we play this game, the more we will be able to cope up with it as we did in the fifty-over format,” concluded the Bangladesh stalwart.

When asked about the reason for his dismal record in T20Is, Mushfiqur Rahim cited out lack of opportunities due to his position in the batting order.
