Riding on valuable knocks from Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim, Bangladesh managed to compile a mammoth score of 306 runs on the board in the first innings. Liton Das set the tone with an outstanding knock at the top of the order.

He went on to notch his fifth century in ODI cricket and shared a 202-run partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim. The latter too looked in sensational touch. He made a valuable contribution of 86 runs in 93 balls. The duo was able to see through Rashid’s threat with ease. The Afghanistan spinner could only manage to pick a single wicket for 54 runs in 10 overs.

Besides, the likes of M Nabi (0 for 26 in 4 overs) and Mujeeb (0 for 49 in 10) also failed to pick wickets for the team. Chasing a mammoth score on the board, Afghanistan needed a good start but they couldn’t get one. Bangladesh managed to pick the first three wickets for just 34 runs inside the power play. Rahmat Shah then joined hands with Najibullah Zadran and led the team’s recovery.

The duo added close to 100 runs and reignited some hopes for Bangladesh. However, both of them couldn’t convert their half-centuries into big scores. Rahmat Shah scored 52 runs in 71 balls, while Zadram compiled 54 runs in 61 balls. Once the duo got out, the match slipped out of their hands. Afghanistan, in the end, were bundled out for 218 runs, thereby falling 88 runs short of the target.

Heading into the final game of the ODI series, Afghanistan would look to register their first win on the tour.
