Shreyas Iyer’s ability to earn a spot in India’s starting XI for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 has been questioned by Aakash Chopra.

From August 27 to September 11, the premier continental tournament will be placed in the United Arab Emirates. The tournament will be used by Team India to choose its team for the T20 World Cup later this year.

Chopra discussed some of Team India’s selection issues in a video posted to his YouTube account. To Shreyas, he stated the following:

“Will Shreyas Iyer play for this team? Shreyas Iyer will be a member of this team because he is not travelling to Zimbabwe. But is there room for him in the starting lineup?”

Earlier this year, Shreyas played well in a T20I series against Sri Lanka. His struggles against the short ball came to light in the IPL 2022 and the T20I matches that followed that series, prompting concerns about his place in the starting lineup.

‘Whether Pant will play and Karthik will be benched’: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra has some doubts regarding Dinesh Karthik’s continued inclusion in the Indian XI. He noticed:

“Even more important to know is if Dinesh Karthik will remain in the game as a finisher or whether Rishabh Pant will play and Karthik will be benched. You might be wondering why I am bringing that up.”

For the top seven batting spots, Team India already has players in place, according to Chopra. Aakash Chopra explained:

“I will tell you why: in a best-case scenario, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and four spinners will all bat after Suryakumar Yadav and Rahul. How are you going to portray Dinesh Karthik?”

It will be difficult for Team India to have both Pant and Karthik in the starting XI. Given that he offers a much-needed left-handed alternative and can play any place in the batting order, the former is probably favoured.
