Shreyas Iyer is going through a terrible time right now because he was only selected for the Team India reserves for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022, according to Saba Karim.

He continued by saying that the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders must improve in order to be given more chances.

For the Asia Cup, which will be held in the UAE from August 27 to September 11, the Indian selectors have chosen a 15-member team. For the competition that will serve as a warm-up for the T20 World Cup later this year, they have also picked three backup players: Shreyas, Axar Patel, and Deepak Chahar.

Shreyas Iyer Needs To Go Back And Work Hard On His Skills: Saba Karim

Karim was questioned about if it is a disappointment for Shreyas Iyer that he is not participating in the Sports 18 programme “Sports Over the Top”, to which he responded:

“Difficult time for him but he is still young, he will get many more opportunities but I think he will have to go back and work hard on his skill and to have more clarity in his approach while he is batting in T20 matches.

“A year back he was the next big thing in T20 cricket for India and that is why he was given so many opportunities to play for the national side. We saw him play in the home series – did not perform up to his potential.

“Again he was persisted with, in the T20 series against England and then against the West Indies, it was only in the last game that he came good.”

In the T20I home series against South Africa in June of this year, Shreyas Iyer was considered to be just a little bit lacking. He normally performed well against spinners but had trouble with the Proteas quicks who bowled at him with short-pitched bowling.
