Asia Cup 2022: Doesn’t Matter If Virat Kohli Scores A 40 Or 70 Because Everybody Has A Role To Play – Aakash Chopra

The 44-year-old cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra, while talking about Virat Kohli’s role for India in the Asia Cup 2022, said that the Men In Blue would not be expecting big runs from Kohli and they would want him to play his natural game.

The Asia Cup 2022, which is the 15th edition of the tournament, is set to be played from August 27 to September 11. The entire tournament is set to be held in United Arab Emirates (UAE). The games will be played across two venues, including Dubai International Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

On Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup and Kohli, who has been going through a lean patch, made a comeback to the side after being rested for the West Indies tour.

Speaking to Star Sports after India’s Asia Cup 2022 squad announcement, Aakash Chopra said:

“[It] doesn’t matter if he (Kohli) scores a 40 or 70 because everybody has a role to play. There’s synergy in every player; regardless of the position he bats at, you are just going hell for leather. If that’s the mindset, then it’s going to be a lot easier for Kohli.

“It’s the perfect set-up. The kind of cricket India is playing at the moment, the team doesn’t expect Kohli to score 70 or a 100 or finish the game. You just come and play your, that’s more than enough.”

Former India National Cricket Team opener Aakash Chopra further said that the India National Cricket Team’s new attacking brand of cricket allows the players to play freely. He added that the players no longer play for the milestones and they attack the opposition bowling unit even when they are very close to personal milestones. He elaborated:

“I don’t know what’s the mindset of the team or what Virat is feeling, but I, as a viewer, have lowered my expectations.

“The reason is, I don’t see anyone in this team who would play for his hundred. Be it, Rohit Sharma or KL Rahul, if they are batting on 50, they go all guns blazing. If 220 is possible, you want to go there. Don’t settle for 210 or 190 or 180.”
