Asia Cup 2022: How Can Ravichandran Ashwin Even Come In The Team? Kiran More Surprised Over Indian Spinner's Selection in Asia Cup 2022 Squad

Former Indian cricketer Kiran More is surprised over Ravichandran Ashwin’s selection in the India squad for Asia Cup 2022. More, who is also a former chairman of the selection committee, said that the team should have picked a seamer like Mohammed Shami or Axar Patel ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin.

Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the spinners for the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2022. Some other spinners in the squad include Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Ravindra Jadeja, and Deepak Hooda. Rohit Sharma will lead India in the tournament, which is set to begin on August 27.

How Can Ravichandran Ashwin Even Come In This Team: Kiran More

While speaking to Star Sports, Kiron More said that he was surprised to know that Ravichandran Ashwin was part of the squad for Asia Cup 2022. He also said that Ashwin’s IPL record is also not good and someone like Axar Patel or Mohammed Shami would have been a better replacement for him.

“Even I was surprised. How can Ashwin even come in this team? And every time. Even in the last World Cup he was picked in the team, and then did not play. Look at his IPL record, it is not that good. I really felt Shami should have taken that role or Axar Patel. And Axar has performed very well. Shami is my player and he will go to the World Cup. I want wicket-taking bowlers. Shami can pick wickets with the new ball, in the middle overs and in the slog overs as well,” Kiran More said.

Ravichandran Ashwin is a regular member of the Test side but picked in only selected T20Is. Interestingly, Ashwin did not play a single T20I game in 2022 ahead of the recent IND vs WI T20I series, where he played 3 games. He was out of the T20I team for almost 8 months.

Asia Cup 2022 will begin on August 27 in UAE. India has announced their squad for the tournament and will play their first match against Pakistan on August 28. Batsmen like Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik, and Hardik Pandya are part of the squad. Among pacers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, and Avesh Khan have been picked.
