Asia Cup 2022: If Someone Thinks That I Can Change Things Within 1 Or 2 Days, Then We Are Living In A Fool's Kingdom – Shakib Al Hasan

Bangladesh National Cricket Team’s newly appointed T20I captain Shakib Al Hasan has said that if anyone thinks he can change the team’s fortunes in one of two days, then they are living in a fool’s kingdom.

Recently, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appointed Shakib as the new T20I skipper of the side until the ICC Men’s T20 World 2022.

Meanwhile, Shakib has said that he doesn’t have any goals as a leader of the side. He added that Team Bangladesh have not been a successful team in the T20I format and they will have to make a new start to succeed, which will obviously require time and patience.

“I have no goals. My only aim is that we can do well in the World Cup and these are the preparations for it,” Shakib told reporters in Dhaka as quoted by Cricbuzz.

“If someone thinks that I can change things within one or two days or someone else will come to change it, then we are living in a fool’s kingdom. If you are able to think practically, our true development will be seen when the team really does well in the World Cup in three months’ time.

“See, we first played this type of version (format) in 2006. Since then, we have not had good results, except the Asia Cup final. We are far behind in this version from that point so we have no choice but to make a new start.

“When a baby starts walking [the first] steps are very difficult but gradually things become easier and I hope that we will also be able to start walking step by step like a baby and then move forward.”

Sridharan Sriram was recently appointed as the technical consultant of Team Bangladesh for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. Shakib said that the experience of Sriram will definitely be helpful for the side, but he was not expecting the technical consultant to do miracles.

“I don’t think there are many things to expect from him as he (Sriram) has been a part of a team like Australia for five years and our World Cup will also be in Australia so his experience will be helpful for us.

“It’s difficult to say how much change will come in this Asia Cup because there is very little time. But as I said, we all have responsibilities here, from the coaching staff to the support staff, BCB, fans, even the journalists also. If we all are able to work together, then it seems to me that a new journey can start.”
