Star India National Cricket Team opening batsman KL Rahul is unlikely to be a part of the India National Cricket Team squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022, according to reports.

KL Rahul was named as India’s captain for the five-match home T20I series against the South Africa National Cricket Team, in the absence of captain Rohit Sharma, who was rested.

However, he was unable to participate in the series after suffering “a right groin injury” and the young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was given the responsibility to lead India and Hardik Pandya was named as his vice-captain.

The five-match T20I series between India and South Africa ended in a 2-2 draw after the last match of the series was washed out due to rain.

Also, Rahul was unable to take part in the recently concluded Ireland tour and he has been ruled out of the upcoming one-off Test against England as well as the entire England tour.

The star opening batsman has undergone surgery for a sports hernia, in Germany, and on Wednesday night he tweeted that the process was “successful”.

At the Annual general meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on March 19, it was announced that the Asia Cup 2022 will begin from August 27 to September 11 in Sri Lanka.

However, later few reports came out suggesting that the dates for the Asia Cup 2022 will be changed and it will take place in Sri Lanka from August 24 to September 7.

Meanwhile, there is a huge possibility of Rahul not being part of India’s squad for the Asia Cup. According to ESPNcricinfo, the usual timeframe for an athlete to return to full activity after a sports hernia surgery, with proper therapy and rehabilitation, is between 6 and 12 weeks, which means Rahul will not be able to regain full fitness when the Asia Cup begins.

Meanwhile, Rahul is expected to undergo his therapy and rehabilitation at Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy.
