Asia Cup 2022: This Will Be Special For Virat Kohli Since He Now Needs To Make A Comeback, It’s Been Too Many Innings – Kiran More

Former India wicketkeeper-batsman and selector, Kiran More, has said that the Asia Cup 2022 will be special for modern-day batting great Virat Kohli as he has been out of form for a while and now he needs to make a strong comeback.

Star batter Virat Kohli, who last scored a ton in 2019, has been struggling to make good contributions with the bat in the past few months. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, he scored 341 runs at an average of 22.73 and a strike rate of 115.98, including two half-centuries. Also, in the recent all-format tour of England, Kohli registered scores of 11 & 20 in the Edgbaston Test, 1 and 11 in two T20Is, and 16 and 17 in two ODIs.

On Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup and Virat Kohli returned to the squad after a break from the West Indies tour. Speaking on Star Sports, More said:

“This will definitely be special for Virat Kohli since he now needs to make a comeback, it’s been too many innings. The other batsmen also have been performing really well.”

He added that the India squad for the Asia Cup 2022 consists of some very good all-rounders. He said:

“Overall, the squad looks good, well-balanced. There are good all-rounders too – R Ashwin has been batting well. Definitely, Axar Patel has been performing well throughout the year too.”

Former India wicketkeeper-batsman further said that he was delighted to see leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi’s inclusion in the team for the tournament. More added that he is also pleased to see Arshdeep Singh being given a place in the squad and opined that India’s wait for a reliable left-arm pacer is finally over. He elaborated:

“I like the team combination and I was really happy with Ravi Bishnoi’s selection. It brought a variation to the team. According to me, this is a good team.

“I’m also happy for Arshdeep Singh. He has been performing well in the IPL, against West Indies, where he was the Player of the Series and bowled well. We were in search of a left-arm bowler, who we have found in Arshdeep Singh.”
