Former Indian cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar revealed that he had a brief meeting with batter, Virat Kohli, ahead of the Asia Cup tournament and said that the 33-year-old was raring to go in the upcoming event.

Kohli’s dry run has continued and the talismanic batter is at risk of losing his place in the T20I side unless he starts performing at the crucial No. 3 spot in the lineup.

Virat Kohli is one of the best players in the world and I am a huge fan. Unfortunately, he hasn’t scored runs since the last IPL and has failed miserably. I think his lean patch is going far too long,” said Vengsarkar.

He is a great player. I hope he scores a hundred against Pakistan. It is very important. I am sure he has prepared well. I just met him in BKC, he was practicing indoors and he looked lean and fit, absolutely raring to go,” he added.

Vengsarkar felt that the bench strength of India has given the management enough options to make up for the injured players, particularly the likes of the frontline seamer, Jasprit Bumrah.

I would say that India has fantastic bench strength because if you see at IPL, they have discovered a lot of pace bowlers. There are plenty of options now as far as fast bowling and good spinners are concerned. I think we won’t be missing anybody for that matter,” Vengsarkar mentioned.
