Veteran batsman Robin Uthappa has proposed that India make a couple of changes in their final Super 4 match against Afghanistan in the ongoing 2022 Asia Cup. On Thursday, September 8, the two teams will square off in a dead rubber at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The Men in Blue will be hoping to finish their campaign on a good note after losing to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4 stage. Following the two setbacks, India’s team selection has come under scrutiny, and the think tank will be hoping to make amends against the Afghans.
Dinesh Karthik, a senior wicketkeeper-batter who has not yet been in the Super 4, will be used by India, as per Robin Uthappa, against Afghanistan. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman said on ESPNCricinfo:
“Dinesh Karthik will likely play today’s game as a finisher, in my opinion. He and Hardik Pandya will place sixth and seventh, respectively. Rishabh Pant might be benched, and Deepak Hooda would bat at No. 5 instead, in my opinion.”
I think Deepak Chahar will play: Robin Uthappa
Deepak Chahar might play since the Indian pacers let up a lot of runs in the previous two games, as per Robin Uthappa. Added him:
“Since this is India’s lone opportunity, I believe Deepak Chahar will play in the bowling department. He is returning from a break and had a strong performance against Zimbabwe, so he deserves an opportunity.”
Avesh Khan was forced to withdraw from the continental competition owing to health reasons, and Chahar, who was on the standby list, was added to the final team.
India and Afghanistan have both been knocked out of the Asia Cup, with Pakistan and Sri Lanka set to feature in the final on Sunday, September 11.
