Aakash Chopra is concerned about the performance of India’s skipper Rohit Sharma before their Sunday Super 4 match against Pakistan in Dubai (September 4).

The Men in Blue enter the match with victories over Pakistan and Hong Kong in Group A. However, Rohit’s performance, who has so far scored 33 runs in two innings, will cause them some concern.

Chopra was questioned about if Rohit is struggling to turn his starts into significant scores and was cause for concern during a conversation on Star Sports. He responded positively, saying:

“I will be concerned because there is a very fine line between good and terrible form; if your confidence wanes, the situation may abruptly change. There is no getting around the reality that his bat was not hitting the ball well when he was on five runs in 15 balls during the Pakistan game.”

“There has just been one half-century this year. We believe that half-centuries are overblown and that milestones should not be sought, but if you are an opener, you may have an impact.”

Rohit Sharma is a player who raises his level in crucial games:

If discussions about Rohit Sharma’s approach had taken place within the squad, Sanjay Bangar was questioned about it. The former batting coach for India retorted:

“Because Rohit Sharma is a player who improves his level in crucial games, I do not believe there will be any discussions regarding his unique approach. Although Hardik is scoring well and our bottom order is solid, I do think that the top order is the only one that can set up the game.”

In 15 T20Is this year, Rohit has scored 323 runs, averaging only 23.07, which is below average. In the first T20I of India’s tour of the West Indies, he scored his only half-century, a 64-run effort.
