Former India national selector Saba Karim suggested India should play with the same playing XI in the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2022.

India has made it through to the Super 4 stage with victories over Pakistan and Hong Kong in Group A.

The Rohit Sharma-led side looks promising to defend the continental title after senior players put in a great amount of effort. The likes of Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav have made a difference with their performances in the last two games.

However, the two major talks have been about the under-firing top order and the young bowlers conceding too many runs.

Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh should get more to gain experience: Saba Karim

Avesh Khan (53 runs) and Arshdeep Singh (44 runs) were taken to the cleaners by Hong Kong batters in the second match. Karim backed the young bowling pair to continue in the tournament despite one bad game.

“Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh should get more to gain experience. You cannot take any of these players out of the playing XI based on one bad performance,” Karim said on India News Sports.

India should not make any changes against Pakistan: Saba Karim

India will play Pakistan in the first game of the Super 4 stage after beating them by five wickets last Sunday in Dubai.

Karim believes that India should field an unchanged playing XI against Pakistan and explained why playing three spinners in the team will be troublesome.

Playing a game against Pakistan is always important [regardless of their form], and you should not make any changes in that game,” Karim said.

“The problem with playing with three spinners is the need to use one of them in the powerplays for one or two overs. We bowled brilliantly against Pakistan. So, there is no need to make any changes,” he added.

India and Pakistan will lock horns once again in the continental tournament on Sunday (September 4) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
