IND vs PAK: Rohit Sharma Surpasses Suzies Bates' Tally In T20Is To Achieve This Milestone

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma on Sunday became the highest run-getter in T20 Internationals including women’s cricket. The Indian opener achieved the milestone during India vs Pakistan clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

After being asked to bat first by Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, Rohit along with his partner KL Rahul got India to a rollicking start in the powerplay overs.

Rohit Sharma surpass Suzie Bates to become the leading run-scorer in T20 Internationals

Rohit took on Pakistan youngsters Naseem Shah and Mohammad Hasnain in the first few overs. The Hitman clobbered three fours and two sixes in his 16-ball 28 to set up a quick stand of 54 runs in five overs with his deputy.

It took a good length delivery from Haris Rauf to end the Indian skipper’s stay on the first ball of the sixth over. 

Rohit has now aggregated 3548 runs from 127 T20I innings, striking over 140, and has registered 27 half-centuries and four hundreds in the shortest format.

The 35-year-old overtook former New Zealand women’s team skipper Suzie Bates,  who has scored 3531 runs in her T20I career so far.

Bates became the highest T20I run-getter in 2018, when she surpassed former England skipper Charlotte Edwards’ tally of 2605 runs while playing against South Africa in a tri-series.

Rohit is already leading the charts in men’s T20 Internationals with 51 runs ahead of New Zealand opener Martin Guptill (3497 runs). Senior Indian batter Virat Kohli is third on the list with 3462 runs in 94 T20I innings.

Pakistan beat India by five wickets

Kohli top scored for India in the first innings as his 44-ball 60 pushed them to 181/7, albeit 20 runs short from the projected score.

Pakistan rode on the crucial stand between Mohammad Rizwan (71) and Mohammad Nawaz (42). The duo added 73 runs in 39 balls to keep Pakistan in the hunt. The latter made a big difference, delivering the best in the pinch-hitter role. Asif Ali and Khushdil Shah played important cameos at the end to see their side through in the first game of the Super 4 stage.

India will next face Sri Lanka on Tuesday (September 6) at the same venue whereas Pakistan take on Afghanistan on Wednesday (September 7).
