Former cricketers Harbhajan Singh, Mohammad Hafeez, and Irfan Pathan came to Arshdeep Singh’s support after the Indian pacer’s dropped catch of Pakistani batsman Asif Ali proved to be the game-changing moment in the Sunday match between India and Pakistan.

At this year’s Asia Cup’s Super Fours stage, the bitter rivals faced off twice. Babar Azam asked India to bat first after flipping the coin. Virat Kohli’s outstanding 60 off 44 balls continued the momentum started by Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul for the Indian team. India managed to establish a challenging target of 182 runs.

As a result of losing Azam early, Pakistan’s comeback did not get off to the best of starts. Mohammad Nawaz, who hit 42 runs off 20 balls, provided excellent support for Mohammad Rizwan’s outstanding batting performance. Rizwan scored 71 goals on 41 attempts.

However, the dismissal of Pakistan’s opener altered the course of the match, giving India the advantage going into the last few overs. However, Arshdeep Singh fumbled a straightforward catch that may have allowed Asif Ali to return to the pavilion.

This ultimately came back to haunt India as Ali made sure that Pakistan made it home with one ball remaining.

Stop criticizing Arshdeep Singh as no one drops a catch on purpose: Harbhajan Singh

The Indian bowler faced harsh criticism from followers on social media for making the mistake. Former cricket players like Irfan Pathan, Mohammad Hafeez, and Harbhajan Singh have now defended Arshdeep.

People should stop blaming Arshdeep Singh, according to Harbhajan, because nobody intentionally drops a catch. He acknowledged that Pakistan was the superior squad that day.

“Stop criticising young @arshdeepsinghh No one drop the catch purposely..we are proud of our boys .. Pakistan played better.. shame on such people who r putting our own guys down by saying cheap things on this platform bout arsh and team.. Arsh is GOLD,” said Harbhajan on Twitter.

Hafeez also lent his support to the Indian pacer by requesting the Indian fans not to humiliate the 23-year-old.

“My request to all Indian team fans. In sports, we make mistakes as we r human. Please don’t humiliate anyone on these mistakes. @arshdeepsinghh,” said Hafeez.

Pathan also defended Arshdeep Singh and said that he has a strong character.

“Arshdeep is a strong character. Stay that way boy. @arshdeepsinghh,” said Pathan.

India will now face Sri Lanka on the 6th of September as they look to bounce from the defeat on Sunday.
