Rohit Sharma’s India National Cricket Team have been knocked out of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022, which is the 15th edition of the multi-nation tournament, after facing back-to-back defeats in the Super 4 stage.

The Men In Blue performed brilliantly in the group stage of the Asia Cup, but they were unable to replicate their performance in the Super 4 round. India were placed in group A of the Asia Cup alongside the Pakistan National Cricket Team and Hong Kong National Cricket Team.

Rohit Sharma and Co. registered consecutive wins in the group stage round and finished at the top spot on the points table. In the match against Babar Azam-led Pakistan on Sunday, August 28, the Rohit Sharma-led side registered a 5-wicket victory. In the match against Nizakat Khan-led Hong Kong, Rohit Sharma and Co. registered a 40-run on Wednesday, August 31, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Meanwhile, in the Super 4 stage, India faced a 5-wicket defeat against Pakistan on Sunday, September 4, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Also, they lost by 6 wickets against Dasun Shanaka’s Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, September 6.

After losing back-to-back games they were dependent on the results of other teams to qualify for the final. However, the win of Pakistan over Afghanistan knocked both India and Afghanistan out of the tournament and now the Men In Green will lock horns with Sri Lanka in the final.

After the defeat against Sri Lanka, Rohit addressed a press conference where he was told by one of the reporters that India’s defeat meant there won’t be an India-Pakistan final.

Rohit came up with a hilarious response, which left everyone in splits as he said, “Hoga na, kyu tension le rahe ho. (Don’t worry, the match will surely take place).”

Although Rohit made the statement in jest, former Pakistan National Cricket Team player Sikander Bakht didn’t miss the chance to take a dig at Rohit. After Pakistan’s 1-wicket win over Afghanistan on Wednesday, the GEO Super news channel played a clip of Rohit’s reply to the India-Pakistan final question.

After looking at the clip Sikander Bakht said, “Usko vaapis bhi jaana hai, usko pata Hoga (He knew he will have to go back to India).”

Also, legendary Pakistan National Cricket Team player Inzamam-ul-Haq, who was also present during the discussion, said:

“As a sportsman, I can understand what he might have been going through. What more he could have said there? It was a difficult time for him. They lost two close games.”
