Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag stated that Virat Kohli is the guy around whom the rest of the Indian squad revolves after the star batter hit another fifty in the Asia Cup against Pakistan on Sunday.

India scored 181 in their given 20 overs thanks to Kohli’s second half-century of the competition, a 44-ball 60, which enabled India to attain their target. However, thanks to a strong partnership between Mohammad Rizwan and Mohammad Nawaz, Pakistan was able to score the winning goal with one ball remaining.

After going through a rough patch recently, fans were glad to see the former India skipper back to form. As per News 18, Sehwag lavished praise on Kohli and his performance against Pakistan during a conversation with Cricbuzz.

The 33-year-old is expected to score a hundred runs every time he enters the crease, the former opener said in his opening statement.

“We have unreal expectations of Virat Kohli.” Every time he comes up to bat, we hope him a high score, at least a hundred. People speculate on when he would beat Sachin Tendulkar’s century record of 100. So we do not even count when he gets 40, 50, or 60. So that is why I think people have been talking about him a lot,” Sehwag explained.

Virat Kohli couldn’t convert good starts to bigger scores: Sehwag

Sehwag went on to remark that Kohli’s performance against Pakistan on Sunday was important and that without him, the final total may have been 151 rather than 181.  He went on to state that the whole team plays around the star batter.

“For me, he was always in form but couldn’t convert good starts to bigger scores. But this innings [against Pakistan] was crucial. Rohit and Rahul gave a superb start to the innings but one person around whom this Indian team plays is Virat Kohli. Had he lost his wicket early, the total of 181 could have been somewhere around 151,” Sehwag added.

India will now face Sri Lanka on the 6th of September as they look to bounce from the defeat on Sunday.
