IND vs PAK: Virat Kohli Looks A Lot Calmer, He Needed That Break – Ravi Shastri

Former India National Cricket Team head coach Ravi Shastri has said that the modern-day batting great Virat Kohli needed a break from cricket and ever since returning he has looked a lot calmer.

Star batter Virat Kohli, who last scored a ton in 2019, was struggling to make good contributions with the bat in the past few months. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, he scored 341 runs at an average of 22.73 and a strike rate of 115.98, including two half-centuries. Also, in the all-format tour of England, Kohli registered scores of 11 & 20 in the Edgbaston Test, 1 and 11 in two T20Is, and 16 and 17 in two ODIs.

After the England series, Kohli took a break of over a month and he missed out on the limited-overs series against West Indies National Cricket Team and Zimbabwe National Cricket Team.

Former India head coach Shastri, ahead of the Super 4 stage game between India and Pakistan, said that the break might have helped Kohli a lot.

“Virat Kohli looks a lot calmer, he needed that break. When you are mentally tired, you are fighting against yourself. Your body tells you something to do, your mind tells you something to do, but you can’t take it. The break could have helped him. The fact that he spent some time on the field would also help him,” Shastri told Star Sports ahead of India vs Pakistan clash.

After returning from a break, Kohli scored 35 runs in the Asia Cup 2022 game against Pakistan and in the game against Hong Kong he smashed an unbeaten half-century.
