Suryakumar Yadav, an Indian team batsman, called Virat Kohli’s gesture of bowing to him following the former’s performance in the Asia Cup 2022 match on Wednesday (August 31) a heartwarming one.
Against Hong Kong in a group A encounter in Dubai, Suryakumar and Kohli combined for an unbeaten 98 for the third wicket. With an unbeaten 68 off just 26 balls, SKY was the dominant partner. In 44 deliveries, Kohli made a 59* contribution.
Suryakumar was astonished when Kohli, who had just finished the Indian innings, bowed to him and thanked him for a great game. At a news conference following the game, the 31-year-old was questioned about the former Indian captain’s response and stated:
“It was a heartwarming gesture. I was wondering why he wasn’t going ahead and waiting instead. Then when I realized, I asked him to walk together.”
Suryakumar claimed that he had a great time batting with the seasoned Kohli.
“I enjoyed batting with him because he had so much experience. I have not played as many T20 games as he has, so it is crucial to have an experience in a circumstance like this.
We do not play bowlers who bowl at speeds of 120-125 kph regularly: Suryakumar Yadav
During the press conference, the batsman acknowledged that playing against Hong Kong’s pacers was a little awkward, who often bowl at 120 to 125 kph. But he added that players should be prepared for any obstacle. Suryakumar commented:
“It is a little awkward, yes. We do not usually compete against bowlers who bowl at 120-125 kph. Our bowlers are bowling at 135-140 even in the nets (kph). However, since it is international cricket, you must adapt. And the same is being done by us.”
India became the first team from Group A to qualify for the Super 4 round with its victory over Hong Kong. Afghanistan has also qualified for the second round after winning both of their Group B matches.
