India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma has said that the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan is undoubtedly a high-pressure game of cricket.
The Asia Cup 2022, which is the 15th edition of the tournament, is scheduled to be played from August 27 to September 11. The entire tournament is set to be held in United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the hosts Sri Lanka taking on Afghanistan in the opening clash.
The tournament was originally set to be played in Sri Lanka but was shifted to United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to the economic and political crisis in the country.
Meanwhile, on August 28, the Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team will go head-to-head with the Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai.
The last time when the Men In Blue and the Men In Green faced off each other at the same venue during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE, the Virat Kohli-led Team India lost the match by 10 wickets after the dominant performances of the Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Also, India’s heartbreaking 10-wicket defeat in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 match against Pakistan was the first loss of the Men In Blue against Pakistan in a World Cup match.
We want to create a normal atmosphere and don’t want to hype this game – Rohit Sharma
Speaking to Star Sports ahead of the high-profile clash, Rohit said that they want to create a normal atmosphere in the dressing room. He added that it is crucial for him and head coach Rahul Dravid to continuously explain to the players that it is just another game of cricket.
“Everyone watches the game especially India vs Pakistan. Without a doubt it is a high-pressure game but within the group we want to create a normal atmosphere and don’t want to hype this game within ourselves.
“For us it is just a game of cricket. It is important for me and Rahul bhai to tell the players that it’s just another opposition,” he said.
