Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has picked India’s Playing XI for the high-octane clash against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022. India and Pakistan will lock horns against each other in their opening match of Asia Cup 2022 on August 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Both the teams will be without the services of their leading pacers, Jasprit Bumrah and Shaheen Shah Afridi as both these superstars are currently nursing injuries. While Jasprit Bumrah was not included in the squad due to the back injury that he sustained during India’s tour of England 2022, Shaheen Shah Afridi sustained a knee injury during Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka 2022.

Danish Kaneria Picks India’s Playing XI vs Pakistan For Asia Cup 2022

In an exclusive interview with Cricketaddictor, Danish Kaneria picked his Indian playing XI vs Pakistan.

“Suryakumar Yadav should open with Rohit Sharma as he is a fearless cricketer and he will certainly make a name for himself in the days to come. He is an attacking player and even if he’s facing the first ball in a game, he comes up with an attacking mindset. He does not play his cricket to save his wicket,” Danish Kaneria stated.

Danish opined that since KL Rahul is returning from a long halt in international cricket, he can be a good floater and play as a number 4 in the Indian team for the game against Pakistan.

“KL Rahul should play at number 4 as he is coming back from injury and hasn’t played international cricket in the last 3-4 months. He will be exposed if he’s made to open,” Danish Kaneria stated.

Difficult To Pick One Between Rishabh Pant And Dinesh Karthik- Danish Kaneria

“It will be difficult to choose between Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik as Team India doesn’t have any left-hander apart from Rishabh Pant in their batting lineup. If you have to play both Karthik and Rishabh, you will have to leave out KL Rahul from the playing XI,” Kaneria added.

“Dinesh Karthik has been very good with his experimentation and so far, his selection has paid off. However, I believe, the team management will go ahead with Rishabh Pant in the opening game and fit in Dinesh Karthik where opportunities are available against relatively weaker sides. So my 5,6,7 will be Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja,” Danish Kaneria further stated.

If India Plays Hardik Pandya As Their 2nd Seamer, I Would Prefer Arshdeep Singh Over Bhuvneshwar Kumar- Danish Kaneria

Danish brought across an interesting fact that the Indian team management might go ahead with only one frontline pacer to accommodate both Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik in the playing XI. Danish said that if such an instance occurs, he would prefer Arshdeep Singh over Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the left-arm pacer has shown excellent skills so far on the international stage.

“Ashwin will definitely play as he’s a world-class off-spinner and has a lot of experience. Yuzvendra Chahal will definitely play alongside Ashwin. However, the selectors will have to decide whether to go ahead with one pacer or two pacers. If they go with one pacer using Hardik Pandya as their second seam bowler, I would want Arshdeep Singh to play all the matches. Yes, Bhuvi has done well off-late but if only one can be chosen, I will go ahead with Arshdeep Singh,” Danish Kaneria remarked.
